Tom Ulecki is a Vancouver based multi disciplinary artist currently working with ceramics and bonsai. He was born and raised in Warsaw, Poland and later grew up in Toronto, Canada where he graduated from the University of Toronto in the Environmental Management program. Tom moved to Vancouver in 2011, where he continued his education at the Kwantlen School of Horticulture. Running parallel to his environmental studies has always been art. Always inspired by his professional landscape artist grandfather as well as his ceramicist aunt. He has pursued visual arts under the pseudonym notanautomatom where he blended colourful and playful designs with conceptual ideas in his acrylic and digital art. In 2017, Tom moved to Japan to apprentice at Kouka-En, a high end bonsai nursery in Osaka. There he spent a year honing new skills in the art of bonsai and venturing into bonsai pottery. After coming back to Vancouver in 2018, he opened Best Coast Bonsai out of his home studio and garden where he develops and maintains bonsai trees and works with ceramics to create and design his own style of bonsai pots.
