While organizing my thoughts tonight for the new year that starts in earnest in a couple of days, I remembered running into this video on the web last week. It is a kinetic sculpture by Willem Van Weeghel called Dynamic Structure 29117. Apart from the seemingly magical and invisible mechanics of the piece, I really love the way that it’s form methodically evolves from moments of minimalist clarity through processions of unfolding symmetry to the point of disarray before resolving back to clarity again…and on and on. This piece is like a a perpetually blooming flower.
I resolve to work as hard this year making our ideas come to life as Willem Van Weeghel surely did to make this beautiful sculpture.
Happy New Year.
